The Court of Cassation recently upheld a ruling issued by the Criminal Court in December 2020 that sentenced a man to eight years in prison after being found guilty of molesting a boy in Amman in July last year.
The court declared the accused guilty of molesting the eight-year-old boy after he was dragged into an abandoned apartment on July 27 and sentenced him to the maximum penalty.
The court papers said that the victim was walking in the street and confronted the defendant face to face, who caught him and took him to an abandoned apartment, and there “the defendant stripped of his clothes and molested him, then released him.”
The court added that the victim left and informed his family and filed a complaint against him, while the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court demanded the Court of Cassation to uphold the verdict against the accused “because the punishment he received was appropriate,” and the defendant did not appeal his verdict.
The Court of Cassation ruled that the criminal court’s procedures were accurate and that the accused had been sentenced to the appropriate punishment.
