A recent study conducted by researchers at the Human Nutrition Research Centers revealed great benefits of pomegranate juice for patients with type 2 diabetes.

In their study, whose results were published in the journal Current Developments in Nutrition, the researchers concluded that drinking a glass of pomegranate juice lowers blood sugar levels within 15 minutes.

Participants in the experiment conducted by the researchers were given a dose of water or pomegranate juice, or water with glucose and fructose, and sugar was measured before and after the experiment.

The researchers found that drinking water did not change the blood sugar level. However, in people with low insulin levels, a “significant” decrease in glucose level was observed at 15 and 30 minutes after consuming pomegranate juice compared to the amount of sugar in the water.

Moreover, a significant rise in insulin levels was observed at 15 and 30 minutes after drinking pomegranate juice compared to sugar water.

Type 2 diabetes arises from poor production of insulin in the pancreas, knowing that insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar in the body, and its poor production causes many health problems.

Doctors attribute the high incidence of diabetes around the world, which is also known as the disease of the age, to changing lifestyles, reliance on fast food and a lack of interest in healthy food or a healthy lifestyle.

On the other hand, doctors say that the genetic factor also plays a significant role in the spread of diabetes.

Doctors warn of the spread of diabetes among children, especially with the lack of sufficient awareness of the disease and its causes.

The British National Health Service advises those suffering from a range of symptoms to seek medical advice, due to the possibility of diabetes.
Symptoms include: urinating more than usual, especially at night, feeling constantly thirsty, feeling tired and exhausted without effort, losing weight without dieting or exercising, getting thrush frequently, blurred vision, and the wounds taking a long time to heal.
