French President Emmanuel Macron decided today, Wednesday, to return his country’s ambassador to the United States, Philippe Etienne, to Washington, next week, after communicating by phone with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, about the submarine crisis.

According to the French Press Agency, this came in a joint statement issued by the Elysee and the White House. According to the French agency, the call focused on the circumstances of Australia’s termination a week ago of a contract to buy French submarines, following the establishment of the new “Ocos” strategic alliance between the United States, Australia and Britain.

The statement indicated that Macron and Biden agreed during the call that holding open consultations between the allies would have avoided the submarine crisis, and that President Biden informed Macron of his permanent commitment in this regard, adding that the American and French presidents, who will meet in Europe at the end of October, decided to launch An in-depth consultation process aimed at securing conditions that ensure trust.

Last Friday, Paris announced the recall of its ambassadors to the United States and Australia, after Canberra canceled the huge contract with Paris for the purchase of submarines and concluded another contract with Washington for the same purpose.
