The Parliamentary Education and Youth Committee discussed, during a meeting held today, Wednesday, several topics related to the residency requirement for Jordanian students who obtained a Turkish high school certificate, the issue of university seats allocated to repeat students, schools covered by the less fortunate for the current year, and the possibility of returning employees in the Ministry of Education. their services.
The head of the committee, Representative Dr. Bilal Al-Momani, said that the “Parliamentary Education” recommended the adoption of 150 days as a residence condition for Jordanian students in Turkey, instead of 180 days, as was the case in past years, because the conditions of the Corona pandemic are still casting a shadow on the world, Including Turkey, which prompts many countries to take strict measures.
Al-Momani indicated, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Educational Affairs, Dr. Nawaf Al-Ajarmeh, the President of the Civil Service Bureau, Sameh Al-Nasser, and a number of students and their families, that there are approximately 62 Jordanian students, who have been affected by the recent decisions on the equivalency process, especially with regard to the residency requirement to equalize the certificate. As well as the financial conditions of the students’ families.
Al-Momani stressed the need for equivalency of certificates for all students who have been registered to study in Turkey for the past two years, after ensuring that they meet all equivalent conditions.
For his part, Al-Ajarma said about the residence requirement to accept Turkish high school certificates, that this condition includes residence and an academic year, which has been stipulated in the system of equivalence of foreign educational certificates since 2016.
On the issue of increasing the number of less fortunate schools covered by the Royal Decree, Momani stressed the need to raise the success rate in the general secondary school certificate exam (Tawjihi) for schools from 30 percent to 40 percent.
In turn, Al-Ajarmeh clarified that any proposal on the foundations for the less fortunate schools will be submitted to the Higher Committee to be considered for the next academic year 2023-2022.
With regard to “Tawjihi” students who are repeating their grades, Momani stressed the need to increase the percentage of seats allocated to this category, to reach 20 percent.
Concerning the repeater students who obtained competitive university seats in the past years, Momani said that if they obtain new competitive seats in medicine and dentistry, on the unified admission list, the old university seat will be assigned to another student from the repeaters.
He explained that in this way, the number of repeat students who will benefit from competitive seats will double.
On the other hand, the committee recommended that the decision to dispense with the services of teachers who have an intermediate university degree (diploma), who were appointed with royal honors, in 2011 and 2012, should be halted, amounting to 1,200 teachers.
In this regard, Momani said that the decision to appoint this segment was to ensure a decent livelihood for them, adding that the decision to dispense with their services is considered “unfair”, since they did not receive an end-of-service retirement.
He stressed the importance of reconsidering the government’s decision, so that this segment is extended for a maximum period of 5 years, and to give its owners an opportunity to correct their situation, in a way that ensures that they receive a pension.
For his part, Al-Ajarmeh said that education has no objection to returning the employees against whom a decision was issued to dispense with their services, explaining that most of them occupy support jobs because they hold a “diploma.”
In addition, Al-Nasser explained that there is a certain period for the employee’s continuity in his work, pointing out that those who were appointed during the years 2011 and 2012 were from the “diploma” holders, as they were “informed about this at the time, that most of them will not reach the retirement age, and he is at the head of Currency”.
He added that the possibility of extending them will be studied, in order to fill the shortage of educational cadres in the Ministry of Education.
