Recently, medical reports said that Chinese scientists were able to develop glasses equipped with “rings”, in an effort to curb human vision impairment and shortness.
According to the newspaper, “Daily Mail”, the so-called “focus rings” were designed in the glasses in order to better focus the light in the retina, in order to give more clarity to the image.
When this shift occurs thanks to the addition of focus rings, it helps slow down the change in the shape of the eyeball, the latter of which is a prominent feature of myopia in humans.
In a Chinese study, 167 children wore these glasses for 12 hours a day, and the results revealed that they benefited greatly.
The study was conducted under the supervision of Wenzhou Medical University in China, and it was noted that after one year of wearing the new glasses, the eye growth of these children became similar or slightly slower than their counterparts who do not suffer from any short-sightedness.
The study showed that the new glasses slowed the progression of myopia in more than 70 percent of children.
The results also revealed that two-thirds of the children participating in the study, did not need any prescription in order to wear new glasses, and this means that their visual problem did not worsen.
Short-sightedness has become a health problem for many around the world, especially in light of the frequent use of electronic devices and more dealing with screens.
In Britain, for example, figures reveal that 40 percent of the country’s population suffers from short-sightedness at the present time, while the percentage did not exceed 27 percent, during the seventies of the last century.
When a person has short-sightedness, the shape of the eyeball changes, increasing in length and becoming oval, while it is normal for it to be circular.
This disorder affects the way light reaches the retina, in addition to affecting the light-sensitive cells located behind the eye, where the images we see are sent to the brain.
Currently available glasses help improve eyesight, but scientists are still looking for a way to slow the problem so that it does not worsen with age.
Those who suffer from short-sightedness can also use special lenses in the eye, in order to reduce the disturbance, but the latter is not suitable for everyone.
And the “Daily Mail” reported, that smart glasses work to solve the problem, by changing the way light reaches the edges of the retina.
The new glasses look like the rest of the well-known glasses, but they use a revolutionary technology known as “halt”, which is equipped with 11 1 millimeter size inside the lenses.
The company, “Esiler”, which manufactured it, intends to distribute the glasses to other hospitals in China, and then will work to transfer the experience outside the Asian country, at a later time.
