King Abdullah II stressed the need to raise the level of the health sector, establish an institutional mechanism to monitor performance and ensure adherence to professional standards.

During his meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with officials and representatives of the health sector, today, Tuesday, the King stressed the importance of continuing to train and qualify medical personnel, as part of a clear plan to raise the efficiency of the medical system.

He warned that there is a failure in the medical sector, stressing the need to learn from any mistakes that occurred to avoid them, and to continue to provide the best services to citizens.

The king had mercy on the two girls who were recently killed as a result of medical errors, and said, “As a father, I know the feeling of every father and mother who lost his son or daughter in this way, and this is not acceptable.”

The King reiterated the need to move forward with administrative reform, to address the shortcomings in performance, and to confront wasta and nepotism.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh stated that the government is committed to advancing the health sector to provide the best services, avoid any medical errors, provide government hospitals with competencies, and evaluate performance for all employees.

He listened to a briefing from the Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, in which he explained that what we are witnessing in the health sector is not a shortage of funds, but rather an administrative failure, a lack of training and education for health cadres and a misdistribution of cadres.

He pointed out that within the framework of the executive measures to raise the level of the sector, the restructuring of the Ministry of Health will be completed early next week.

The meeting was attended by Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Youssef Hassan Al-Issawi, Director of the King’s Office, Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Adviser to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Medical Affairs, Brigadier General Dr. Adel Al-Wahadneh, Director General of the Royal Medical Services, Brigadier General Dr. Abdullah Omeish, President of the Private Hospitals Association Dr. Fawzi Al-Hamouri, and the Captain of Nurses Khaled Rabaa.
