The Director-General of the Food and Drug Administration, Nizar Mhaidat, announced, on Tuesday, raids to several factories and workshops for nutritional supplements in Amman.

Mhaidat told Al-Mamlaka that “an operator and a warehouse were seized whose owners were packing nutritional supplements and marketing them as alternatives to medicines.”

He pointed out that, “among the activities carried out by the Foundation over the course of a month is the follow-up of concerns that change the statement cards and try to offer some of their products as nutritional supplements, especially for diabetes medications, and they have been followed up and monitored.”

“The workforce of the Food and Drug Corporation, in cooperation with the security services, was able to seize an operator and warehouse in which the owners of the facility fill the materials as nutritional supplements and try to market them in the Jordanian market as alternatives to chemical drugs without any license and indication to allow their circulation,” Muhaidat said.

Mhaidat explained that “the process began by tracking the websites through which these products and materials were promoted, and from here the supervisory workforce in the institution started and communicated with them until the site was seized and all its contents, including herbal and non-herbal materials used in preparing capsules and pills to be promoted, were monitored. As medicines for some chronic diseases.”
