Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah on Tuesday called on the international community to improve collective action in the face of the most difficult challenges facing humanity, stressing that cooperation is necessary to solve common problems facing the world.
During her opening speech broadcast via a recorded message to heads of state and a number of officials in the United Nations and the private sector, activists and thought leaders at the Global Humanitarian Forum in New York, Queen Rania warned against the tendency of people to confine themselves to themselves and focus on narrow self-interests in a time of crisis.
“If we take a step back and broaden our vision, we will see a different picture, an image that requires and reinforces our belief in teamwork,” she said.
Her Majesty pointed out that despite the imperfect progress achieved by the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals, it remains remarkable, as millions have been liberated from despair, millions of lives have improved, and millions of children have the opportunity to develop and learn.
“Technology has kept the lines of communication open in light of the epidemic, but we are still very far from fluency in the common language of humanity,” Her Majesty said, stressing that we do not live in isolation from each other and our problems are not separate.
On the global response to the pandemic, Her Majesty said: We could have dealt better with the current crisis if our “humanitarian network” had been stronger, and if we had communicated better at the beginning of the pandemic, noting at the same time that despite the need to develop our communication, humanity can adapt.
