The Director of Traffic Operations in the Greater Amman Municipality, Engineer Muhammad Al-Fauri, attributed the causes of traffic crises in the capital, Amman, to urban sprawl, considering that this sprawl contributed significantly to traffic crises.

He added, in his speech to Roya channel, within the program “Pulse of the Country” on Monday evening, that the traffic density is of all kinds, the first is an emergency such as a traffic accident on a road that leads to traffic congestion, and the second is due to the increase in the number of vehicles on main roads and streets.

Al-Fauri pointed out that the percentage of owning private vehicles in Jordan, relative to the population, is the highest in the world, as the percentage reached 8.3% in Jordan.

He attributed the causes of overcrowding in Amman to the wrong behaviors represented in the wrong parking, cutting off pedestrians from places other than those designated for them, and suddenly changing the lane.

And the transportation and traffic engineering consultant, Eng. Muhammad Al-Wawara, said that traffic congestion occurs when the number of vehicles traveling on that road is greater than the carrying capacity, and it is of two types, either emergency, and the second type is permanent congestion.

He added that Amman during the next five years will witness a saturation of the roads, which means that there will be permanent congestion in the streets of Amman.

The urban planning consultant, Engineer Muhammad Al-Kalaldah, called for stopping work on the comprehensive Amman plan, indicating that the emergence of Amman started from the center of the country and then headed radially towards the mountains until it reached the borders of the surrounding governorates.

He added that the city of Amman is a “cribjet”, and cars will not be able to walk in its streets in the coming years, stressing that those who worked on expanding the streets had no idea that Amman would grow in this way, noting that continuing to expand the city in a radial way is a planning crime committed by successive administrations.
