Today, Monday, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation confirmed that it deals with dam water with a high responsibility as needed, in regulated ways, and in accordance with the available quantities.

The ministry stressed, in a press statement today, Monday, that the water supply to all regions of the Kingdom for drinking purposes is progressing well in accordance with the approved plans and programs in light of water scarcity, especially this year.

She explained that the last rainy season recorded (50 percent) of the rainfall for the year 2020, which was reflected in the decrease in the total storage in the dams by less than (80) million cubic meters from their total capacity of 336 million cubic meters, indicating that the last rainfall was recorded in the southern regions of the Kingdom for a period of time. Two days, the last of which was on February 14.

It indicated that the storage in the Kingdom’s main dams currently stands at 75 million cubic meters, which constitutes 22 percent of the total dam storage, compared to 126 million cubic meters of water for the same period last year, with a storage rate of 37.5 percent.

The ministry confirmed that most of the main dams are used for irrigation and industry purposes, while only the positive unit dam is used for drinking purposes, mainly and directly.

Regarding the Al-Waala Dam, the ministry explained that the quantities of water available in the dam at the end of the last rainy season, after emptying a quantity of about 4.5 million cubic meters, are used for the purposes of ground feeding and strengthening Al-Hidan wells, which supply Madaba Governorate with its drinking needs, as well as the use of some farmers water from the dam lake, in addition to Liquefaction of other quantities under the dam so that the liquefaction operations continued until May 15th.
