A number of national figures stressed the importance of starting a real constitutional reform that emphasizes the principle of separation of powers, within a monarchical parliamentary system, the concomitant power and responsibility, and the peaceful transfer of power.
Those gathered in the “Umm Al-Amad” area in the capital, Amman, added today, Saturday, that all national forces must participate in making Jordan’s future, emphasizing that the people are the source of authority.
This meeting comes 100 years after the age of the Jordanian state, and the reform projects proposed by the official authorities are still empty of the content of reform and below the minimum level of ambition of the Jordanian people.
The statement, signed by 111 personalities, called for the launch of legislative reforms for a number of basic laws, which include the Election Law, the Parties Law, the Press and Publications Law, the Cybercrime Law, the Crime Prevention Law, the Associations Law, and the Amman Municipality Law.
Following is the text of the statement:
A statement issued by a group of Jordanian national figures
On the desired national reform
After a hundred years of the existence of the Jordanian state, the reform projects proposed by the official Jordanian authorities are still empty of the content of reform, and below the minimum level of aspirations of the Jordanian people, who aspire to be a real source of powers as stipulated in that constitution, and to exercise their role in electing their representatives. and choosing his government that exercises general jurisdiction, away from the domination of any political, security or foreign party.
We are the signatories to this statement, and based on our meeting on Saturday, 9/18/2021 AD in the Umm Al-Amad area in the capital, Amman, and after deliberating at length on the reality of our country and the future of its generations, and the collapsed political reality that it has reached, from the dependence of the political mind on security, the customary approach, and exclusivity In governance, the dominance of an alliance of corruption and tyranny, the absence of a parliament that truly represents the nation and affects the political reality, the absence of governments qualified to lead the stage, the disappearance, neutralization, persecution and distortion of minds and national symbols, the weakening, fragmentation and penetration of partisan work, the sale of state property and its basic structure, the suppression of freedoms, and the besieging of opinion The word, the widening cycle of poverty, unemployment and indebtedness, the decline in education, and the signing of treaties that mortgaged the homeland and its capabilities to the hands of its enemies, we are in the face of all of this to emphasize that political reform will not be achieved in Jordan except in the context of the following principles:
1- The participation of all national forces in shaping the future of Jordan, emphasizing that the people are the source of authority.
2- A real constitutional reform that emphasizes the separation of powers, within a monarchical parliamentary system, the correlates of authority and responsibility, and the peaceful transfer of power, in the context of political pluralism free from foreign domination and from the guardianship of political or security authority. A legislative authority freely elected by the people, and an independent judiciary.
3- Legislative reforms to a number of basic laws, which include the Election Law, the Parties Law, the Press and Publications Law, the Cybercrime Law, the Crime Prevention Law, the Associations Law, and the Amman Municipality Law.
4- Unlocking public and personal freedoms, freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of association, guaranteeing women’s political, economic and social rights, children’s rights, preventing torture in all its forms and forms (harm or threat), and considering it a crime with no statute of limitations.
5- Economic reform that reconsiders the economic approach, affirms the role of the state in many strategic economic activities, reviews privatization policies, and supports the transformation of the economic approach to production.
At the end of the forum, those gathered formed a committee to follow up on the principles contained in this statement, and to work to gather the national ranks around those principles, in order to hold a national conference, which would lay out a road map to get out of the predicament that successive governments have put us in.
May God protect Jordan from all evil, and the Jordanian people lived free and dear…
