Official sources said that the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court accused a man of premeditated murder of his wife, who recently died in hospital from third-degree burns in Amman.
The media spokesman for the Public Security Directorate said last week that the husband burned his wife after family disputes on September 6.
The victim was taken to the hospital and remained in the intensive care unit, suffering from burns all over her body, according to the media spokesperson.
A senior judicial source said: “We were able to interrogate the victim two days before her death, and she claimed that her husband set her on fire.”
While the senior judicial source added that the husband claimed that “his wife set herself on fire following a domestic dispute.”
“We are currently interrogating family members to find out more about the incident,” the senior judicial source said.
A second official source said, “The victim suffered burns of more than 70 percent in different parts of her body, adding that the victim died of blood poisoning resulting from burns that covered most of her body and some vital organs.”
The Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court ordered the arrest of the suspect pending further investigations into the incident, according to a senior judicial source.
The media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate said that, based on police records, “the victim did not file any local complaints against her husband in the past and did not have a file with the Family Protection Department.”
The Association of the Jordanian Women’s Solidarity Institute issued a statement last week condemning the woman’s death. The statement said that the 28-year-old victim was a mother of three.
“Solidarity” indicated that the victim wrote on her Facebook page shortly before her death, saying: “God suffices me, and yes, the agent. I thought he would change my life, but now he erased all my life.”
