The Moroccan Authenticity and Modernity Party, which is the second largest bloc in parliament, announced its agreement to participate in the government of Prime Minister-designate Aziz Akhannouch, head of the National Rally of Independents.

This is a positive indication towards the formation of the next government coalition.

This came according to the National Council of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (representing the party’s parliament), in an official statement that included what happened in the extraordinary session of the Council, which was held on Friday.

The statement said that the members of the National Council participating in the session, the majority of them agreed to accept “the offer of the participation of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the next government presented by the head of government appointed for the party, within the framework of preliminary consultations on forming the next government.”

The party authorized its Secretary-General, Abdel Latif Wehbe, to organize “the rest of the series of consultations on forming the next government.”

The party stressed what it called “the actual and real participation of the Authenticity and Modernity Party within the next government, taking into account its political size and its position as an intellectual and political force with a realistic and distinct electoral program, in the light of which it contracted with the Moroccan people.”

Over the past few days, Moroccan Prime Minister-designate Aziz Akhannouch held meetings with leaders of the political parties represented in Parliament as part of his ongoing consultations to form the new government.

And last Friday, King Mohammed VI of Morocco commissioned Akhannouch to form the new government after his party, the National Rally of Independents (Centre), topped the results of the legislative elections that took place last Wednesday.

The Authenticity and Modernity Party won 86 seats in the last elections.

According to the country’s constitution, there is no specific period for government formation consultations, whose formation requires obtaining the approval of those who occupy half of the seats in the House of Representatives plus one.
