For the first time, Jordan’s oil production reached 1.5% of the Kingdom’s consumption
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Hala Zawati, confirmed that the production development work in the Hamza oil field aims to produce larger quantities of oil and change the stereotype about the lack of oil in Jordan.
In a statement to Al-Rai, Zawati indicated that work is proceeding to develop oil production, whether from the Hamza field or from other sites that showed strong oil evidence in the Kingdom.
She said that it is the first time that Jordan’s oil production reaches 1.5% of the kingdom’s consumption, as the kingdom’s needs amount to about 140,000
Zawati described the work in the Hamza field as an important development for the national economy in terms of increasing the contribution of local energy sources to the total energy mix in line with the comprehensive strategy for the energy sector 2020-2030 with its main objective of “self-reliance.”
She indicated that the ministry’s plan for the Hamza field for the next two years includes completing the rehabilitation of the four productive wells, developing production in them, and re-entering the non-productive wells.
Zawati indicated that work is underway on the technical evaluation of the entire field through the processing and analysis of seismic surveys available at the ministry using modern and advanced technologies and software, the results of which will help in expanding technical operations outside the current wells area.
She pointed out that this stage will be followed by the resumption of drilling wells in the Hamza field, which has stopped since 1989, and work will be underway in parallel with the field work in the field in reprocessing the geophysical information of the field in cooperation with WesternGeco International, which will analyze the information and identify new drilling sites in cooperation with the National Petroleum Corporation.
She explained that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, after about 30 years of stopping drilling in the field and the decline in production quantities to the lowest level (ten barrels per day), rehabilitated the field with Jordanian talents working in the (National Petroleum Company), which carried out the development work and achieved a distinctive increase in production quantities.
She said that the process of rehabilitating the Hamza field and raising its production capacity had extended for two years and was completed in two phases. Opening in December 2020.
As for the second stage, it is the stage of rehabilitating the existing (wells) with the aim of increasing their production quantities. During this stage, tests were conducted that focused on developing production using new production methods to increase production and succeeded in raising the production capacity of wells in the field.
This stage was opened on July 7, 2021, and the ministry is working with the National Petroleum Company in the third stage, which is the stage of reprocessing and analyzing seismic surveys to assess the field and locate new wells.
