Sildenafil, commonly known as Viagra, is one of the most talked about drugs around the world.
Its primary use was to treat impotence, however, Viagra is not only beneficial in sexual life, it has other benefits and, inevitably, comes with side effects.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) says the drug, available in tablet or liquid form, should be taken anywhere from four hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. It is advised not to take “sildenafil” more than once every 24 hours. So what can happen if you take Viagra daily?
One potential side benefit of Viagra is that it can protect against heart problems.
A study from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden found that “men with stable coronary artery disease who take Viagra because of impotence appear to live longer and have a lower risk of having a new heart attack.”
The study revealed that potency problems are common in older men, and now the study shows that inhibitors like Viagra may protect against heart attacks and extend life.
However, Darren Marines, MD, an emergency physician at Einstein Medical Center, said, “Viagra is prescribed for erectile dysfunction and pulmonary artery hypertension. If you don’t have one of these problems, you shouldn’t take Viagra.”
He explained that the most common side effects of Viagra are flushing, headache and indigestion.
The National Institutes of Health also notes that other side effects can include:
• Heartburn.
• Diarrhea.
• Nose bleeding.
• deep sleep.
• Burning or tingling in the arms.
• Sensitivity to light.
Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health warns that Viagra can cause serious side effects including:
• Sudden weakness or loss of hearing.
• Tinnitus.
• Vertigo.
•pain in chest.
• Itching or burning during urination.
And if you experience any of these symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately.
In rare cases, daily use of Viagra can cause a sudden severe loss of vision.
The National Institutes of Health explains: “Some patients have experienced a sudden loss of some or all of their vision after taking sildenafil. In some cases, vision loss has been permanent. It is not known whether the vision loss was caused by the medication.”
Pre-existing health conditions are also a concern for doctors who prescribe Viagra.
The National Institutes of Health revealed that there were reports of heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeat, bleeding in the brain or lungs, high blood pressure and sudden death, in men who took “sildenafil” to treat ED.
It also explains that “most, but not all, of these people had heart problems before taking sildenafil.” It is not known whether these events were caused by sildenafil, sexual activity, heart disease, or a combination of these and other causes. You should talk to your doctor about the risks of taking sildenafil.
As with any medication, be sure to read the fine print. You should not take Viagra if:
• You have had an allergic reaction to sildenafil or any other medicines in the past.
• you have a serious heart or liver problem.
• You have recently had a stroke or heart attack.
• Reduction of Blood pressure.
• She suffers from a rare hereditary eye disease, such as retinitis pigmentosa.
