The American Cedar Federation, in cooperation with the American Embassy, ​​held a symposium in Amman the day before yesterday for Jordanian rice traders.

The US embassy said in a press statement issued by it, that the participants in the event are representatives of the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce.

The American Cedar Association is a staunch advocate of rice growers, millers, traders and allied companies, including those who export rice to Jordan.

American-origin rice, which has been in the Jordanian market for more than 40 years, which constitutes nearly 40% of the country’s total rice imports, which is one of the most popular types of rice in Jordan, is imported by many local companies and is used daily in homes Jordanian, and is trusted for its high quality and great taste.

Betsy Ward, President and CEO of the USA Rice Federation, said: “The US rice industry is proud to provide one of Jordan’s most important staple foods to Jordanian consumers, and we value the long-term relationships that our products enjoy within the Jordanian market.”

The Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Hassan Al-Omari, confirmed that Jordan’s food imports from the US market contribute to enhancing the Kingdom’s strategic stock of food and basic commodities, especially wheat, rice, poultry and corn, as the Kingdom’s imports from the United States of rice for the year 2020 amounted to what its value Seventy-four million dollars.

Al-Omari stressed the keenness to work effectively jointly to advance economic relations between Jordan and the United States.

“This event demonstrates our commitment to Jordan’s prosperity by providing Jordanian merchants with information on the most modern and practical market developments,” said Elizabeth Melo, the US agricultural official.

Milo added that US rice sales to Jordan demonstrate the importance of the US-Jordan FTA for both countries, leading to the development of a strong commercial relationship that supports the continued flow of US rice to Jordan. “American rice plays a role in the overall food security of Jordan with its reasonable prices, availability and ease of finding in the markets. You can count on us to provide you with affordable, high-quality rice.”

The chief agricultural economist from the USDA, as well as rice researchers from California and Arkansas, gave a presentation during the symposium on the quantities of rice in the world and the current rice yield in the United States. This was followed by a question-and-answer session between the committee members and all participants.

“We hope to help Jordanian businesses move and ship the ongoing food supply around the world for the benefit of our Jordanian trading partners and consumers,” said Mark Holt, chair of the US Rice Subcommittee in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The American Rice Association is committed to continuing its work in the Jordanian market to increase the presence of American rice and to share information about the high quality and availability of American rice in the Jordanian market.
