The Hajj and Umrah Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Holy Affairs said that it had not received any official arrangements from the Saudi side regarding the resumption of Umrah trips by land.
The ministry said in a note to it, on Monday night, referring to what was circulated on news websites regarding the resumption of Umrah trips by land, the Department of Hajj and Umrah warned that it had not received any official arrangements in this regard from the Saudi side.
The Secretary of the Association of Tourism and Travel Agents and the media spokesperson for the Hajj and Umrah companies, Kamal Abu Diab, said earlier that no approval had been issued by the Saudi authorities to allow Jordanians to perform Umrah by land.
Abu Diab added that the Ministry of Interior responded to the letter of the Association of Tourism and Travel Agents, and through His Excellency the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, that there is nothing to prevent pilgrims from traveling by land from the Jordanian side.
He indicated that these correspondences do not mean that the Saudi authorities have agreed to this demand until this moment, and that Jordan is still waiting for the Saudi response to that.
