The Court of Cassation recently upheld a decision issued by the Criminal Court in March, sentencing two men to prison terms ranging from 15 years to life, for convicting them of killing a woman in a road shooting in the Jordan Valley in January 2018.

The Criminal Court found the two men guilty of shooting and killing the victim, who was standing on the side road, on June 2, and sentenced them to the maximum penalty.

The court papers said that the two defendants were driving their car when it was hit by another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

The court confirmed that one of the bullets hit a woman who was standing on the side road, and that “the bullet hit the victim’s neck and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival.”

The two convicted men appealed their verdicts, claiming that “the prosecution failed to provide strong evidence for their involvement in the shooting.”

On the other hand, the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court also asked the Court of Cassation to uphold the original ruling, and the latter ruled late last month that the criminal court’s ruling falls within the law, that the procedures were sound and that the ruling was satisfactory.
