Red water appears in the Dead Sea area (photos)

Today, Saturday, Jordanians circulated pictures showing the appearance of red water and its leakage into the waters of the Dead Sea, in the Ghor Haditha area in the southern Jordan Valley.


The media spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salama, said in a statement, that the source of the water is unknown until now, noting that the ministry’s cadres are at the site to take samples of that dyed water.

Salameh added that the ministry does not currently have any information about that water, stressing that its truth and source will be revealed as soon as the results of the examination are issued.

The head of the Water and Agriculture Committee of the Karak Governorate Council, Fathi Al-Huwaimel, said that official authorities have been contacted to work on identifying the source of the water.

For his part, the Director of Agriculture in the Southern Jordan Valley, Eng. Yassin al-Kasasbeh, explained that searches are underway to detect the accident, noting that this hole is located under the Haditha dam under construction, and that this phenomenon is found in the ponds adjacent to the sea due to the presence of bacteria and red algae that love salinity, which changes color with The presence of sunlight.
