The Court of Cassation recently upheld a ruling by the Criminal Court in November that sentenced a man to four years in prison after being convicted of molesting a teenage girl in Amman.

The Criminal Court declared the accused guilty of molesting a 15-year-old teenage girl on February 8 and sentenced him to a maximum of four years.

The court papers said that the victim and the accused became friends via the Facebook platform, then “their friendship developed into a relationship, and they began to see each other regularly.”

The defendant persuaded the victim to accompany him to a furnished apartment where he sexually harassed her several times, according to court papers.

The court ruling added that the matter was revealed and the victim’s family filed a complaint against him at the Family Protection Department.

The defendant appealed the verdict through his lawyer, claiming that the prosecution “failed to present any strong evidence” implicating him, and the defense also claimed that the victim made contradictory statements that could not be used as evidence against his client.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court asked the Court of Cassation to uphold the ruling.

The Court of Cassation ruled that the criminal court’s procedures were accurate and that the accused had been sentenced to the appropriate punishment.

The Court of Cassation ruled: “The court relied on physical evidence, including DNA, to prove that the accused had committed the crimes attributed to him.”
