Endocrinologist Pavel Baranov revealed why drowsiness occurs after eating and how to avoid it.
The doctor explained that this phenomenon is caused by the production in the brain of a substance called orexin, which is responsible for feeling alert and appetite, indicating that eating foods rich in carbohydrates leads to the inhibition of its activity, which causes drowsiness.
“Our brain contains a section called the hypothalamus,” he said. It produces, among other things, a substance called orexin, which affects wakefulness, alertness and appetite.”
And so that the person does not fall asleep after the meal, the specialist recommends abandoning the excess consumption of carbohydrate foods in one meal, and controlling blood sugar levels.
