Zoe Williams, a British doctor and spokesperson for the British National Health Service (NHS), said in an interview that some types of cancer can strike people at an earlier age than others.

The doctor also mentioned that some cancers are easier to detect if you make it a habit to do a regular self-examination of your body – this allows you to quickly notice those changes that should be directed to a medical facility.

Colon, breast and testicular cancers often show some outward signs, while other cancers, such as ovarian and pancreatic cancers, can go unnoticed and rarely give a clue until a tumor has developed.

Check yourself in regularly – do monthly breast or testicular self-exams, and attend check-ups, Dr. Zoe Williams recommends.

It also encourages adults to build on their knowledge and be aware of the many warning signs of cancer in the body.

The doctor lists 10 possible signs of cancer:

A lump in the chest or testicle, or any new or strange lump.

Cough for more than three weeks, chest pain, or shortness of breath.

Changes in bowel habits: blood in the stool, persistent diarrhea or flatulence.

Blood in urine, stool, cough, vomit, between menstrual periods, after sex, or after menopause
difficulty urinating

Moles: any changes in shape and color if they are itchy or appear more prominent.

Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite.

Unexplained tiredness or profuse sweating at night.

Difficulty swallowing, hoarse voice, or persistent heartburn.

Ulcers that do not heal on the skin or in the mouth.
