The World Health Organization (WHO) considers type 2 diabetes to be one of the diseases that overwhelm people in the face of “Covid-19”.

Doctors point out that people with the disease usually do not know they have it. How do we determine the incidence of type 2 diabetes? And how does its development affect the course of “Covid-19” disease?

In a television interview, Dr. Sergey Agapkin points out that diabetes is a chronic disease accompanied by a disturbance in the metabolism of young and old and a lack of insulin, which causes a high level of glucose in the blood. And warns of the consequences of type II diabetes.

According to him, the consequences of type 2 diabetes, the most prevalent, are myocardial infarction, stroke, diabetic retinopathy (low vision and blindness), liver failure, amputation of limbs, and the severe form of the “Covid-19” course, and may lead to death.

He adds, explaining, that the number of people with type 2 diabetes increased during the pandemic period.Firstly, because of the self-isolation “the person is isolated at home watching TV programs and “eating stress”. And secondly, people’s unwillingness to undergo annual medical examinations.

Dr. Marina Maximova, an endocrinologist, points out that the early signs of type 2 diabetes are, at first, feeling sudden tiredness, weakness, sweating, shivering and palpitations. When these signs are repeated, anxiety, irritability, emotional disturbances and the desire to cry appear.

She adds, the development of the disease is accompanied by a constant feeling of thirst, dry mouth, poor wound healing, skin itching, a feeling of hunger, weight loss, anemia, paresthesia and tingling in the extremities, and frequent urination at night (more than twice).

So what do we do? Do we reduce the intake of sugar? According to Dr. Agapkin, this will not give good results, because simple carbohydrates are accessible to everyone everywhere, for example, even a standard can of ketchup contains 70 grams of sugar. Therefore, it is advised that the blood should be analyzed periodically to find out the level of sugar and pay attention to the diet.
