King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held a tripartite summit in the Egyptian capital today.

The summit was held at the Federal Palace in Cairo within the framework of coordinating positions and visions, ahead of the upcoming meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, where it discussed the most important developments in the region, especially the Palestinian issue.

In a speech during the summit, the king said that the meeting in Cairo today confirms keenness to provide all means of support to the brothers in Palestine, and to continue efforts to activate the peace process.

The King affirmed that the current situation cannot continue and the region cannot enjoy security and stability without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The king added, “The unfortunate developments in recent months have confirmed this fact, and here I express my appreciation to the brothers in Egypt for their continued efforts to consolidate calm and enhance stability, especially President Sisi.”

He stressed the importance of stopping attacks and unilateral measures, especially in Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and the need to work with all parties to avoid any escalation, because this would negatively affect efforts to achieve peace.

The King reiterated that Jordan will continue to make all efforts to preserve the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, and to protect and care for Islamic and Christian holy sites in it under the Hashemite guardianship.

He also stressed that despite the multiple challenges the region is witnessing, the Palestinian issue is still the central issue.

“We will continue to coordinate closely with our brothers in Egypt and Palestine for the sake of what is good for our peoples and the causes of our nation,” the king concluded.
