A source close to the Libyan government revealed that “the head of the national unity government, Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, did not cancel a visit to Tunisia, which was scheduled for Wednesday, as reported by some news.”
The source, who preferred not to be named due to the sensitivity of his position, said in exclusive statements that “the office of the Libyan Prime Minister has contacted the Tunisian side regarding an appropriate date for the president’s visit and that Wednesday is appropriate for the visit, which Tunisia welcomed, but it informed the president’s office about the presence of a foreign delegation at the same time.” This led to the postponement of the visit to a time that suits both parties, which was agreed upon by the two countries.”
He stressed that “Al-Dabaiba is keen to visit Tunisia as soon as possible in order to contain the crisis between the two countries, which certain parties from the two countries are trying to escalate and cause strife between the two neighbors, explaining that the statements of the Libyan Prime Minister caused anger from the Tunisian side, and that the visit aimed to contain and clarify the matter.” .
For his part, the advisor to the Tunisian President, Walid Al-Hajjam, called for the need to stop disrupting and creating excitement and spreading confusion between Tunisia and Libya, stressing that the exchange of visits at all levels between the two countries exists and will continue, but the exceptional circumstance that Tunisia is currently going through has forced the postponement of some bilateral entitlements to close dates. Coming in a clear indication of Dabaiba’s visit,” according to statements to the “Tunisia Africa” news agency.
Tunisian pages and activists announced that Tunisia had refused Dabaiba’s visit to its territory after his recent escalatory statements against Tunisia and accused it of being an exporter of terrorism, and that Dabaiba might withdraw the Libyan ambassador from Tunisia in response to this refusal, which both sides denied completely.
The Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Manqoush, met with her Tunisian counterpart, Othman Al-Jarandi, on the sidelines of the recent Algiers conference on Libya.
