The White House rejected calls for President Joe Biden to resign over the attack on Kabul airport, which left dozens dead and more than 150 wounded, including 13 American soldiers among the victims.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said; “This day is not appropriate for political games,” he continued: “We expect every American, whether elected official or not, to stand by us and share our determination to pursue these terrorists, fight them and eliminate them wherever they are.”
It should be noted that a number of American politicians, mostly Republicans, including former officials and members of Congress, called on President Biden to resign over the attack.
Republican Representative Ronnie Jackson commented on President Biden’s press conference on the attack: “This was shameful. There was clearly an issue with Biden’s mental health, and it was hard to watch. He must not remain president, even for another second. And we deserve better than that.”
In turn, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said: “Should Biden resign or be impeached after dealing with the issue of Afghanistan? Yes. But that would leave us with Kamala Harris, and that would be a lot worse.”
In his speech following the Kabul attack, Biden confirmed that the United States would pursue those responsible for the attack.
And on Thursday, a double attack, claimed by the Islamic State, targeted the vicinity of Hamid Karzai Airport, killing at least 90 people, including 13 American soldiers, and wounding at least 150, according to an Afghan Health Ministry official and American sources.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the Amaq News Agency, which is affiliated with it, in a statement on the Telegram website.
The first suicide attack took place at the eastern gate of the airport, and the second took place near a nearby hotel called “The Baron.”
