On Saturday, Russian warplanes launched air strikes on Idlib countryside, while the regime forces bombed Daraa, which led to the death and injury of one person, while Washington renewed its support for holding Bashar al-Assad to account and its adherence to the necessity of reaching a political solution in Syria.

Al-Jazeera correspondent quoted the Syrian opposition as saying that a Russian air strike targeted Jabal al-Zawiya in the southern Idlib countryside.

For its part, local sources told Al-Jazeera that at least one person was killed and others wounded in artillery shelling by the Syrian regime forces on the besieged neighborhoods of Daraa city.

The sources stated that the bombing caused a large and widespread destruction of buildings and properties.

She added that the bombing coincided with clashes between fighters from the people of Daraa and the regime forces backed by militias loyal to Iran on the outskirts of the besieged neighborhoods.

This comes despite the continuation of negotiations between the Houran clans and the Syrian regime, with Russian mediation, to reach a solution that ends the siege of the city and stops the military operations that have been going on for nearly two months.

In a related context, the US State Department confirmed today, Saturday, its support for “efforts to ensure a political solution in Syria in line with the Security Council resolution.”

“We strongly support efforts to hold the Syrian regime accountable for the atrocities it has committed against its own people,” she said.
