The Taliban denied the existence of any agreement with Tehran regarding the Shiite minority in Afghanistan; Reports claimed that the late Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani, had a contract with the movement’s leaders years before his assassination.
Taliban spokesman, Qari Youssef Ahmadi, said in exclusive statements to the newspaper, “Arabi 21”: “We did not sign any agreement with Qassem Soleimani, whether to prevent the attack on the Afghan Shiite citizens or any other minority.”
He added: “Shiite Afghan citizens do not need any protection, as there is no danger to any minority in Afghanistan, whether Shiites or others.”
And on Friday, Middle East Eye published a report quoting “informed” sources that Soleimani personally concluded agreements with the Taliban, in 2015, to protect the Shiite minority movement in Afghanistan, in exchange for it receiving funding and training from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
The deal also included, according to the report, that Tehran would prevent the return of the Afghan Shiite militia “Liwa Fatemiyoun” to their country, who are active in Syria alongside the Assad regime.
The website pointed out that Tehran and its allies’ interaction with the Taliban’s takeover of all of Afghanistan, including the capital, Kabul; It was fast.
Earlier this week, the Iranian-backed Iraqi paramilitaries issued threatening statements, hinting that they were ready at any moment to go to Afghanistan to protect the Shiites there.
Two days later, that tone began to decline, and the degree of tension decreased significantly at the behest of Tehran, and after meetings were held in Baghdad in this regard.
