An argument erupted between former Minister of Environment Khaled al-Irany over a post by former Interior Minister Samir Habashneh, after the latter wrote a pamphlet about copper mining in the Dana Reserve.
Habashneh said, “We appeal to the government about the issue of copper extraction from Dana and its environs, and not to pay attention to groups, as Al-Karkiyah says, “they are poor people.”
He added, “They do not know anything about people’s needs, which suffer from unemployment, destitution, lack of food, poor housing, and the collapse of services.”
And between Habashneh, “My proposals are to establish a national company with the contributions of citizens, such as the beginnings of phosphates, refineries, and others, to invest in national human competence, and to seek the assistance of foreign expertise if necessary.”
He continued, “The lands are vast, and environmental reserves can be allocated, times the area cut out from Dana.”
The Iranian minister was briefed on what Minister Habashneh wrote, and he replied, “I thank you, Your Excellency, we, many Jordanians, and many of the good people in Jordan, the immoral, against the destruction of the nature of Jordan.”
Al-Irany continued, “I thank you for expressing your point of view by attacking those who disagree with it, and this is the opinion and the other opinion, and this is the reform that we advocate, not accepting the other opinion and calling it different titles, so thank you.”
