Children, including very young ones, are becoming more susceptible to infection with the emerging coronavirus, including its acute form, as evidenced by medical practice and disease statistics in Russia.

The newspaper “Kommersant” confirmed the fact that the Corona virus has become more frequent and more difficult to infect children.

Experts link a similar trend with the spread of the Delta strain, which was first discovered in India. Today, this strain is known to be prevalent in many regions of the world, and it has been noted more than once that the disease it causes is different from the infection caused by the “Wuhan” strain.

The type of coronavirus in Wuhan was relatively safe for children, but in the latest wave, it has become clear that the virus has begun to actively attack smaller groups of the population.

This trend is reflected in the statistics of morbidity rates in different Russian regions, the number of cases of HIV infection in children has increased several times.

Meanwhile, there is a tendency towards a worsening of the course of COVID-19 in young patients, up to a fatal outcome, said Novosibirsk infectious disease doctor Marina Mikhailenko.

“Now more often pneumonia is observed with a large proportion of lung damage, which was not the case before,” she added.

According to Dr. Sergey Potria, infection with the Delta strain in children, in addition to lung damage and respiratory failure, can cause rarer symptoms; Such as pancreatitis, multiple organ failure, diarrhea, and multi-inflammatory syndrome, stressing that this development is fraught with serious risks.
