Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati confirmed that the recently announced electric tariff came to simplify the tariff and reduce costs on economic sectors, without negatively affecting Jordanian domestic subscribers, especially those with low and medium incomes.
Zawati indicated during a meeting with the Energy Committee of the Senate that the new electric tariff removed the maximum load on all economic sectors, as this had an impact on reducing operational costs on these sectors, and enhancing their competitiveness.
Tariffs on some sectors have also been reduced, to varying degrees, without any increase in the tariff for any of the economic sectors.
She indicated that the domestic sector, under the new tariff, removed distortions, and reduced the segments from 7 to only 3, and is subject to two tariffs, a subsidized tariff that benefits every Jordanian participant, the temporary Jordanian passport holders, and the people of the Gaza Strip, with one meter per subsidized family, and an unpaid tariff. The subsidy is at cost, and it will apply to non-Jordanians, owners of renewable energy systems, and owners of more than one meter.
