The “Al-Ma’ala” Cave is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Jordan, as some believe that they were pigeon houses and others believe that it was a cemetery characterized by the method of burying the dead by burning the bodies.
Because of the cave’s importance, the Mayor of Greater Amman, Eng. Yousef Al Shawarbeh, addressed the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, approving the inclusion of the “Al Muallaqa Cave” site, located in the Iraq Al Amir region, on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In addition to linking the tourist path with the baptismal area and proceeding with the accreditation procedures globally in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the paths project team.
This decision is considered the first in the history of the Greater Amman Municipality, as the decision of Shawarbeh came after the Municipality of Amman completed and documented the site through scientific research, designing a YouTube movie about the cave, in addition to a brochure and publishing information about the cave in books specialized in tourism and antiquities.
More than five workshops were also held, in addition to the secretariat’s opening and paving the road leading to the cave to facilitate the movement of visitors.
Thus, it constitutes a real achievement for the people of Amman in general and the people of Wadi Al-Seer, Badr, Marj Al-Hamam and Wadi Al-Akhdar district, especially for this historic achievement.
