Suddenly and without warning, a visitor as heavy as cancer may invade human life, and only those armed with hope, will and determination are able to emerge victorious from his battle, and the young Moroccan woman, Kawthar Rouiba, is one of these warriors.
“Cancer is a journey that chose me and I did not choose it, I will live it with positivity and optimism.”.. Words that Kawthar summed up her experience with the malignant disease, and her story, whose chapters were written with the juice of physical pain and psychological suffering wrapped in hope.
With a spirit of positivity and a smile that does not leave her face, the young woman in her thirties coexists with breast cancer, and shares with her followers on social media chapters of her experience with the disease, in an attempt to change the stereotypes associated with this disease in society.
Kawthar is keen to publish pictures of her shaved head and in full elegance, and considers that adapting to illness and a sense of beauty give a shipment of psychological energy that helps in treatment.
One day in June last year, while applying her daily moisturizer, Kawthar discovered a strange lump in her right breast, and quickly went to the doctor for an urgent examination.
Kawthar told Sky News Arabia: “Her watch underwent an ultrasound of the breast in addition to the radiography, which confirmed my suspicions about the presence of an abnormal mass in the breast.” )”.
The young woman remembers how the waiting period for the results of laboratory analyzes was one of the most difficult periods in her journey with cancer, although she was almost certain that she had the disease, due to several factors, including the results of the radiological examination and the abnormal hardness of the mass.
Kawthar tells how the news fell on her like a thunderbolt, and turned her life upside down, and how she did not stop at that time wondering about the reasons behind her cancer, despite her young age and the healthy lifestyle that she was following.
After a short period of time, the young woman was able to overcome the shock and feelings of fear, and chose to follow the path of optimism, clinging to hope in life, and embarked on a physically and psychologically exhausting journey of treatment.
“I chose to have the courage and patience to live with the disease alone and without anyone’s help, whether friends or relatives. I could not bear to see them suffer for me,” Kawthar says.
“I lived really hard and I can’t describe the amount of pain I was feeling after the chemotherapy sessions. I was always trying to stay strong and not give the disease a chance to defeat me,” adds Kawthar.
Late last year, Kawthar completed chemotherapy, after which she underwent a partial mastectomy with courses of radiotherapy, and she is now continuing the targeted therapy with the help of hormonal drugs.
Kawthar stresses that getting rid of the chemical rations and reaching an advanced stage of treatment does not mean getting rid of the side effects, whether psychological or physical, that the cancer patient suffers from. Virtual confrontation and positive energy
After confirming that she was infected with the malignant disease, Kawthar set out on a journey of searching through social media for a glimmer of hope that would help her fight her new battle, and for cases that positively coexisted with the disease, but she often clashed with stereotypes about the disease in social media.
But this gave her the determination and determination to go out into the open and share her experience with her followers, with the aim of spreading positive energy and optimism among them and giving hope to women living the same experience, while trying to change the negative image about cancer.
The stories that Kawthar witnessed inside the waiting rooms in hospitals, of women suffering from the negative view of society, and others who were late in detecting the disease, constituted an additional motivation to share their experience.
feeling beautiful
Hair loss or the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes, side effects resulting from chemotherapy, may cause psychological crises in some cancer patients, but for Kawthar, it was a source from which she derives her strength to continue treatment.
The young woman says: “Hair was for me an identity card. I never imagined that I would give it up, but when I had to do it due to illness, I liked my new look very much, and I started sharing my shaved pictures on social media.”
Kawthar refuses to link beauty to poetry or any other criteria, and believes that “the feeling of external beauty and self-care away from the gaze of others is greatly reflected on the psyche of the patient, and is an important step in the treatment journey.” A new opportunity in life.
Kawthar asserts that her cancer was the most important station in her life, and it was an opportunity for her to pause with herself, to rearrange life’s papers and arrange priorities.
She adds, “Cancer taught me not to associate myself with the future. A person should live in the present and enjoy every moment in life, and try to stay away from thinking about the past, which consumes a lot of positive energy.”
Kawthar stresses that everyone is vulnerable to cancer, and calls for avoiding its causes by paying attention to physical and psychological health, engaging in sports activities, and trying to stay away from feelings of anxiety and tension, as well as making sure to conduct regular check-ups.
