The Court of Cassation upheld a ruling issued by the Criminal Court last February, which sentenced a man to seven years in prison after being convicted of setting fire to his neighbor’s house in Irbid in 2012.
The Criminal Court ruled to convict the accused of setting fire to the house of a woman who filed a complaint against him at a police station.
The court papers said that the accused had ongoing disputes with the woman who lives in his neighborhood.
The defendant learned on the day of the incident that the woman had gone to a police station to file a complaint against him due to old disputes, and he went to her house and burned it.
Court documents stated, “The house was completely destroyed, but no one was injured in the accident.”
The defendant appealed the ruling of the Criminal Court, arguing that “the prosecution failed to provide strong evidence to convict him of the charges against him.”
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court asked the Court of Cassation, to confirm the ruling, and the latter ruled that the procedures of the Criminal Court were accurate and that the accused had been sentenced to the appropriate punishment.
