Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed, on Tuesday, that Turkey occupies a global position in the field of defense industries, and that it has revolutionized this field during the past two decades.

This came in the opening speech of the Istanbul International Defense Industry Fair “IDEF”, which begins today and continues until August 20.

Erdogan stated that Turkey is a country that is happy to share with its friends all the capabilities and capabilities it has developed in the field of defense industries.

He expressed his belief that providing an atmosphere of peace, stability and confidence in the region and the world depends on establishing a fair balance in defense industries.

He said: “The agreements and protocols signed at the (current) exhibition indicate that it has occupied a global position in this field.”

He pointed out that Turkey has revolutionized the defense industries, like other fields, during the last 19 years, indicating that his country has reached a very good point in its efforts to reduce dependency on the outside in this field.

He stressed that Turkey has succeeded in reducing its dependence on the outside in the defense industries from 80 to 20 percent.

He stressed that Turkey is among the first 3 or 4 countries in the world in designing, producing and selling armed drones, which have actually proven their success on the ground.

He explained that Turkey has put its weight in the defense industries with the aim of overcoming the difficulties caused by global suppliers and the declared and undeclared embargo that it has been subjected to.

In this regard, he continued, “In addition to meeting our needs in the defense industries, we are investing in the development of technologies, vehicles and products of the future.”

He pointed out that Turkey’s defense and aviation exports exceeded $3 billion, while they had not reached a quarter of a billion before.

In another context, he stressed that the mentality of considering a drop of oil more valuable than a drop of blood has no place in Turkey’s values and social concept.

He added, “We will never be one of those who come from tens of thousands of kilometers and rain bombs on people under the pretext of fighting terrorism and without caring about civilians and innocents.”

He indicated that the volume and quality of participation in the exhibition, which dates back to 1993 and is held every two years, is an indication of the success of the defense industries in Turkey.

He pointed out that this year’s exhibition witnessed the participation of 1236 companies and representatives, while it was 1061 the year before last.

And he added: “As a leading member of NATO, the largest defense agreement in the world, we believe that our contribution to regional and global peace will increase as we develop our defense industry.”

He continued, “We strive to play our role in this direction by increasing our defense expenditures and the resources we allocate for research and development in a balanced manner.”

He explained that the number of defense industry projects currently in Turkey exceeds 750 after it was only 62 projects in 2002, and its budget reached 75 billion dollars after it was 5.5 billion dollars.

He pointed out that the number of companies operating in the defense industries sector in Turkey rose to 1,500, down from 56

Erdogan made it clear that Turkey wants peace, so it is always ready for war, according to an old popular proverb in this sense.

He pointed out that Turkey’s only goal in raising its flag elsewhere around the world is to bring security, stability, peace and prosperity there.

He added: “As the people of a country that does not have in its history any cases of colonization, occupation, massacres or exterminations, we invite our friends everywhere we go, to achieve benefit and gain together.”

He pointed out that Turkey is not among the countries that use the fight against terrorism as an excuse to carry out operations in areas tens of thousands of kilometers away.

He pointed out that the double standards of global technology companies towards terrorist organizations is a major reason for Turkey to become strong in all fields.

Erdogan renewed his saying, “The world is greater than 5,” referring to the Security Council and its crooked regime, pointing to the importance of defense industries in this system.

He explained that “this beautiful scene in the exhibition “IDF” for defense industries shows the extent of the distance that has been traveled in order to change the crooked world order.”
