The Court of Cassation upheld a ruling by the Criminal Court in March that sentenced a man to a year in prison after being convicted of trying to kill a man in Zarqa in June 2019.
The criminal court declared the accused, a car parts dealer, guilty of shooting a man in the neck after a “heated argument”.
The court papers said that the defendant entered into an argument with another dealer to sell some spare parts over the phone.
The court papers said: “The victim grabbed a brick and tried to throw it at the defendant, so the latter took his gun and fired one shot at him.”
Court papers added that the victim survived the assault after undergoing an operation on his neck at a nearby hospital.
However, doctors treating at the hospital determined that the injuries were life-threatening and he survived due to medical assistance.
The Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court requested the Court of Cassation to confirm the ruling, and the latter ruled that the procedures of the Criminal Court were accurate and that the accused had been sentenced to the appropriate punishment.
