The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Najat Rushdi, has warned of the impact of fuel shortages on the provision of health services and water across the country, putting thousands of families in Lebanon at risk of falling into a humanitarian catastrophe.
And it said in a statement today, Tuesday, that the largest hospitals in Lebanon have reduced their activities due to the lack of fuel and electricity, and the fuel-dependent public water supply and wastewater treatment systems have significantly reduced the activities of hospitals throughout Lebanon, leaving millions of people without The water poses a threat to public health and the environment.” She added that “the deterioration of the social and economic situation in the country threatens the health system due to limited liquidity, lack of medicines and the migration of medical staff.”
She indicated that priority should be given to restarting the energy supply from the Electricité du Liban to ensure the provision of essential basic services to people such as health and water.
She stressed that humanitarian partners, including UN agencies, are ready to provide assistance to affected people throughout Lebanon.
