It revives the marriage season in the summer, making what they know as “discourses”, as many mothers usually resort to their help in finding a bride for their son, or finding a groom for their daughter, and this is usually in exchange for a sum of money that the “rhetoric” receives, if the matter is successful, with reference to There are those who do this task for free.

On the other hand, many mothers reject the idea of “rhetoric”, and instead use knowledge and research with personal effort, fearing that there will be some kind of misleading that they may be exposed to, as well as avoiding paying a sum of money.

Citizen Haifa asserts that she has never thought of resorting to “discourses,” as she prefers to resort to friends, neighbors, or “marry out of love.” But she confirmed that her son, because he lives in the United States of America, had to seek the assistance of a “rhetoric” because he is in exile and there is no He has someone from the family who helps him in looking for a bride.

As for the citizen, Umm Muhammad, she said that about a month ago she resorted to one of the “letters” to search for a bride for her son coming from the Emirates to Jordan on a short work leave, adding that she was racing against time to find a bride for him so that he could complete the engagement before his return to the Emirates, which prompted her To resort to “rhetoric”.

Umm Muhammad indicated that she had received many of what she called “offers” from the public speaking to girls looking for marriage, and after visiting more than one family, a girl was already chosen to suit her son, who visited the family and sat with the girl and her family.

In return, Umm Muhammad says that the “letter” asked for 150 dinars, and attempts to negotiate with her to reduce the amount were unsuccessful, noting that it is the first time she resorted to “letters,” and found that the idea is practical and actually helps young men and girls to find a life partner.

“Al-Khattabat” is also active on social media platforms, as you find many advertisements on their pages, such as: “I am a student of finance and banking, I am 25 years old, I am 160, I weigh 50 eggs, and my hair is long.. The specifications of the young man: I want someone who is educated and fears God.”

Another example: “A sweet college girl, a tall and skinny 30-year-old university girl, who wears a veil, wants a single or separated young man without children, a college student, tall, thirty years old, with onions).

The “discourses” are also active on the “WhatsApp” application, and they create groups on the application that include many girls and mothers, to communicate about finding a groom or bride.

“Al-Khattaba” Eman, told the Jordan News Online newspaper, that people interact a lot with her and are very happy when she finds the right groom for their daughter or vice versa, adding that she has been working in this field for more than 20 years, and has been able to marry many young men and women and the elderly, without to charge any fee.

According to Iman, the category that deals most with “discourses” are elderly men.

She said that she did not choose this job, but by virtue of her work as a preacher who helps the poor and needy and works to fulfill their needs, she generated confidence within the people in her, so they resort to her to help them in matters of marriage, and because of her extensive relationships as well.

Eman indicated that this work causes her many problems, the most important of which is that some young men, after setting an appointment with the young woman’s family, refuse to go to meet her with unjustified pretexts, which causes her embarrassment with the girl’s family, and some of them evade the matter after walking through it and meeting the girl and her family.

As for “Al-Khattaba” Umm Firas, she confirms that her work in this field brings her abundant income, especially in the summer, when engagement and marriage events abound, noting that she started working about 3 years ago.

Umm Firas stressed that her task is not easy, especially when she tries to ensure the sincerity of the information provided by the “customers”, as well as the sincerity of their intentions.

And regarding the amount she receives if one of the missions succeeds, she said that it depends on the financial situation of the clients, and the amount of effort she made to complete the marriage, but she indicated that the average amount ranges between 100 and 200 dinars.

Sociology expert, Dr. Hussein Al-Khuzaie, confirms that “rhetoric was a widespread method in the past, and now it is being revived because it achieves great benefit in society, and brings relationships between people closer and helps them get to know each other and solve the problem of spinsterhood.” By members of society, especially now because the average age of marriage in Jordan for females has risen to 27 years, and for males is 30 years, we are in dire need of practicing this behavior, cooperation, effort, initiative and love of good.”
