Today, Monday, Dr. Hassan Al-Barari, Professor of Political Science at the University of Jordan, submitted his resignation from the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System.
The head of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System, Samir Al-Rifai, was also attributed with accepting Al-Barari’s resignation from the committee’s membership.
Al-Barari considered that his decision to resign came after his complete conviction that the election committee’s proposals will reproduce the status quo, which “is not suitable for Jordan at the beginning of the bicentenary.”
In the text of his resignation, he added that the election committee’s proposals do not conform to his political convictions, nor the political values he espouses, as they will perpetuate subsidiary identities at the expense of national identity, besides that “it is unreasonable for Jordanians to be forced into partisanship or to give a quota to parties that do not exist on the land.” In fact, it is unconstitutional.”
He added: The proposed proposals will keep us away from the desired political reform, which is based on the values of citizenship and social justice, and will reproduce the status quo.
Al-Barari pointed out that King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein’s discussion papers contain all the modern content that we need to empower Jordanians politically in a way that transcends sub-identities, narrow loyalties, and quotas.
With the resignation of Al-Barari, this resignation will be the third for members of the committee after Oraib Al-Rantawi and Wafa Al-Khadra.
