Developments regarding Lionel Messi’s near future are coming faster than anyone expected, and after Barcelona announced that his contract would not be renewed on Thursday night, the brother of the Emir of Qatar, Prince Khalid bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, confirmed that the Argentine would sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

Al-Thani indicated, on a social networking site, that negotiations with Messi had been completed and that an announcement would soon follow.

Al-Thani wrote on Twitter, “The negotiations are officially over, and there will be an announcement later, #Messi.”

The news came as no surprise as Pep Guardiola ruled Manchester City out of the race to sign Messi at a press conference on Friday, and it is clear that only the two Qatar-owned clubs will be able to afford Messi.
