The Minister of Culture, Ali Al-Ayed, mourned the Jordanian director Saud Al-Fayyadh Khalifat, who passed away after a life full of giving, during which he accomplished many Jordanian works that express our authentic values and the details of our lives and our connection to the land.
Al-Ayed said, “Today we miss a note from the Jordanian dramatic directors, who had a great presence in meeting the taste of the Jordanian and Arab viewer and emphasizing the Jordanian privacy in these works that conveyed to us bright periods and stations in the eighties, nineties and post-millennium, to the Jordanian village and the Badia and the details of the intimate relationship of the Jordanian person. With the place, through his directorial vision, he remained diligent in its implementation and was interested in searching for appropriate dramatic texts.”
Al-Ayed offered great condolences to the artist’s family, the Jordanian Artists Syndicate, and his friends and fans in the Jordanian and Arab cultural and artistic community.
Al-Fayyad, born in the city of Salt in 1943, holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Jordan in 1967, and is a member of the Jordanian Artists Syndicate. He studied directing in London and the United States, and worked on weekly television programs and as a news director.
He directed many Bedouin documentaries, such as the series “Min Bawadina”, which had a significant impact on enriching his experience in the Bedouin television works that he directed, in addition to dozens of rural dramas that conveyed to viewers early on the conditions of the Jordanian village and the journey of its people in overcoming life conditions and interest in developing capabilities. The acquisition of knowledge and adherence to the land, in early periods, through a successful director’s vision in the interest in dialects and authentic heritage, and the dialogues of a large elite of pioneering Jordanian artists and youth who excelled in embodying this vision, which contributed to the marketing of Jordanian drama in the Arab world.
And he pioneered in important works such as “Lane Al-Bawadi” in the early seventies, and “Shams Al-Agwar” in the early eighties, a work that met with a great presence in that period that witnessed more of these distinguished works, such as the series: “The Falcon” and “The Mills”, And “wounds,” and “the plow and the fallow.”
As for the nineties, it witnessed his most important work, which is the series “The Face of Time”, which highlighted Jordan’s support for Palestine during the period of forced displacement, as well as the suffering of Jordanians in the face of difficult conditions due to lack of capabilities and ambition towards improving the quality of life. As for the series “Umm Al-Krum”, which was directed by the end of the nineties He was a witness to his high ability to grasp the details and natural photography without frills for the period of moving from the village and migration from it, and the lack of interest in the land and its productive projects, as well as his works in the series “Watering”, “The Plow and the Fallen”, and other works.
Al-Fayyadh received a number of awards, including the award of the Shalimar Festival in Pakistan for his film “The Tribal Judiciary”, the award of the Asian Broadcasting Union Festival in Tokyo for the film “The Life of the Badia”, and in Morocco he received the award for directing the series “Wajh Al-Zaman” written by Taher Al-Adwan. His script was written by the artist Mahmoud Al-Zeyoudi, as well as the bronze award at the Cairo Radio and Television Festival for the series “The Watering”, which was shown in 2000.
