Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will pay an official visit to Rabat on August 11-12, according to a Moroccan diplomatic source on Friday.
The source explained that Lapid will meet with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita during this visit, without giving details about her program.
Last year, Morocco became the fourth Arab country to normalize its relations with the occupation, under American auspices, as part of a tripartite agreement under which Washington recognizes Rabat’s sovereignty over the disputed Sahara with the Polisario Front.
Three weeks ago, the Israeli foreign minister announced his intention to visit Morocco, on the eve of the launch of a direct air route between the two countries, starting on July 25.
In early July, Rabat witnessed consultations between officials from the two foreign ministries on the development of bilateral relations.
The two countries established diplomatic relations through two liaison offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv following the signing of the Oslo peace agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis in 1993, but Morocco officially cut these relations after the Palestinian uprising in 2000.
