Tunisian President Kais Saied said that “there is no way to go back, and there is no dialogue except with the honest and steadfast, who have internalized the people’s demands.”

Said added, during his meeting with the Director General of the Office of Grain in Tunisia, that “there are free and honorable people in all parts of the state who will make a new history for Tunisia.”

Suggestions for an extension

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Tunisian People’s Movement, Zuhair Maghzaoui, said that President Kais Saied may extend the exceptional period, stipulated by 30 days in the constitution, to 6 months because it is not sufficient for reform.

He pointed out that the extension will be because the reform process “is not easy.” He said that those who “ruled the country for 10 years will not give up easily and be satisfied with the fait accompli.”

The Secretary-General of the People’s Movement considered that Saeed is “sovereign and wants to preserve the sovereignty of the country, but he is required to draw up a road map and announce a prime minister as soon as possible to instill reassurance in the hearts of the people.”

Maghzawi believes that it is necessary to “amend the constitution and hold early elections.” He said that political parties committed electoral crimes during the elections, the punishment of which is imprisonment, stressing that a number of MPs are ready to submit their resignations to get out of this crisis.

In addition, Tunisian associations demanded, on Thursday, Saeed, to draw up an action plan with the civil forces related to the benefits of the new phase and to get out of the exceptional situation in the country.

This came in a joint statement issued by the Syndicate of Journalists, the Association of Judges, the Young Lawyers Association, the Association of Democratic Women, the League for the Defense of Human Rights, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, and the Association of Tunisian Women for Research on Development.

The associations that signed the statement expressed their “adoption of the legitimate demands of the Tunisian people and their peaceful movements, which culminated on July 25,” in reference to the protests that Said invokes to take his decisions based on.

The statement added, “These moves were a result of the failure of the government’s policies to find solutions to the health, economic, social and political crisis that drained the citizen and confiscated the national decision.”

He stressed “the need to change the unpopular and ineffective public policies, and to review the economic and social options that continued over 10 years, and led to the deepening of the economic, social and health crisis in the country.”

The statement pointed out, “The need to respect the principle of the separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary as an authority completely independent of the executive and legislative authorities, in order to be able to regain its role and work to expedite the opening of all dangerous and fateful files.”

The associations expressed their “categorical rejection of any path that leads to the politics of the international and regional axes and alignment, and their denunciation of the interference of foreign capitals (which they did not make clear) in the Tunisian internal affairs and the sovereignty of the state.”

Resignation of the official TV director

In addition, the director of news at the Tunisian state television, Imad Barboura, submitted his resignation today.

In a post on his Facebook account, Barboura said: “After more than 25 years in the Tunisian TV news service, I announce my resignation from the news department.. Good luck to all.. The news department is honest.”

Barboura had previously responded to Said’s statements regarding arranging the news and covering his activities in the main bulletin on state television.

“Criticism is legitimate, but questioning integrity is unacceptable,” Barboura said, adding in a statement to local radio station Shams FM that “there is no blackout of presidential activity and that public opinion can view and verify the bulletin on YouTube,” noting that “the order of the bulletin is logical.” .

Imad Barboura said that “all journalists and workers in the news department are linked in the bulletins to the conditions in the country and with a clear and explicit editorial line that respects everyone, and is at the same distance from everyone, and considers people’s concerns as one of his most important priorities,” as he put it.
