A few weeks separate Morocco from legislative elections, which will decide who will lead the government for the next five years, when it is expected to witness fierce competition between the parties, foremost of which is “Justice and Development”, the leader of the government coalition, and aspiring for a third term.
Parties will compete for the votes of more than 15,746 thousand registered in the electoral lists, as no party has announced its boycott of the elections scheduled for next September 8, which will take place in light of the repercussions of the outbreak of the Corona virus.
** “Justice and Development” is getting ready
The Justice and Development Party (Islamist) is leading the government coalition for a second term, for the first time in the history of Morocco, after winning the 2011 and 2016 elections.
The party won 125 seats in Parliament out of 395 in the last legislative elections in the country, where it chose for its current electoral campaign, the slogan “credibility, democracy and development.”
The party says its platform “aims at strengthening governance and continuing the associated structural reforms”.
The Secretary-General of the party, Saad Eddin El Othmani, who is also the head of government, stated in press statements that “the party has succeeded in accumulating significant successes in political participation by inspiring a breath in political life, and it has restored confidence, integrity and integrity in political work.”
** “Authenticity and Modernity” .. ambition to lead
In turn, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (the largest opposition party / right) is preparing to contest the elections, and aspires to lead the results.
The party’s Secretary-General, Abdellatif Wehbe, announced that his party has great chances of winning the first place in the elections, stressing “the possibility of achieving this ambition through hard work and effective communication with the Moroccan people.”
The “Authenticity and Modernity” organization came second in the 2016 legislative elections, with 102 seats.
** “Istiqlal” party… Pre-election pain
With the elections approaching, the “Al-Istiqlal” party (opposition left) is witnessing a great dynamic, as its former Secretary-General, Hamid Shabat, announced his resignation and leaving the party.
Some linked this resignation to the party’s internal disputes, after its current Secretary-General, Nizar Baraka, refused to endorse February to run in the communal elections in the Fez city district (north).
The party that came out in opposition in the middle of the previous government’s term (2011-2016) aspires to win the votes of a large number of voters.
In previous media statements, Baraka said that Morocco needs a government that enjoys credibility and popular support, through the strong involvement of citizens in the upcoming elections, calling on Moroccans to vote heavily.
** “The National Rally of Independents” .. the party of businessmen
The National Rally of Independents (center-right) party, which is participating in the government coalition, revealed its readiness to run for the legislative elections.
The party’s founding dates back to about 42 years, as it bets on the leadership of the next government, with the support of businessmen, especially as it brings together many investors, and is described as “close to the palace.”
Party leader Aziz Akhannouch said at a party event: “The National Rally of Independents has presented ministers who have achieved great results in all productive sectors.”
Akhannouch added that his party focuses on projects that guarantee a take-off in the agricultural, commercial, industrial, tourism and fishing fields.
The party came fourth in the 2016 legislative elections, after obtaining 37 seats.
