Corona deprives GDP of 3 billion dinars from tourism

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Al-Fayez, said that the contribution of the tourism sector to the GDP last year amounted to one billion dinars, compared to more than 4 billion dinars for 2019.
Al-Fayez added, during his patronage today, Thursday, the opening of the scientific day of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Al al-Bayt University, which was entitled: “Tourism and its role in the renaissance of the national economy in light of the centennial of the Jordanian state,” that given the stability in the epidemiological situation in Jordan and a number of countries in the world. The tourism situation is expected to improve for the current year, especially in light of the programs and plans launched by the ministry.
Al-Fayez pointed out that there is a specialized team from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and through coordination and cooperation with the relevant ministries, to study the programs that have been launched and the possibility of their continuation for the next year.
And he indicated that the indicators indicate that there is a gradual improvement of the tourism sector in Jordan, especially with the launch of the foreign tourism season, which will start in the middle of next month, pointing to the ministry’s endeavor to make the outputs of the scientific day support the ministry’s efforts to advance the tourism sector from all sides.
He stressed that the ministry seeks to contain the effects of the Corona pandemic on the tourism sector by creating an exceptional response to this epidemic, so that we can accelerate the tourism industry, by adopting a unified tourism approach, upgrading the Kingdom as a leading tourist destination, and reconsidering the arrangement of tourism work mechanisms following the negative effects of the pandemic. .
In turn, the Acting President of Al al-Bayt University, Dr. Ismail Ababneh, said that the scientific day of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences comes within the university’s celebrations of the centenary of the Jordanian state, pointing to the great achievements that have been achieved during the hundred years in all aspects and at various levels.
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Al al-Bayt University, Dr. Bahjat Al-Jawazneh, said that we meet today in front of one of the achievements of the Jordanian state during the first centenary, represented in the tourism sector, which has received distinguished attention since the founding of the Kingdom, and the visions of the founding king were in launching many initiatives and laws, Tourism has become an advanced Arab and global position.
The scientific day discussed, in its sessions, working papers entitled: “Archaeological and Tourist Sites in Mafraq Governorate,” “The Department of Antiquities and Tourism Affairs during the Emirate of Transjordan,” “Development of Archaeological and Tourist Sites with an Islamic and Christian Religious Dimension in Jordan,” and “Factors Affecting the Marketing the tourism sector within a hundred years of the establishment of the Jordanian state.
