New research shows that eating yogurt also promotes lung health, in addition to keeping your digestive system at its best.
A study conducted in October 2020 confirmed that drinking a cup of yogurt daily may reduce the risk of lung cancer.
The researchers found that study participants who ate this healthy snack daily had a 20 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer.
The participants ate yogurt and a high-fiber diet, as a result, their risk of lung cancer was reduced by up to 30 percent.
The results showed that participants who ate about one serving of yogurt per day had a 19 percent lower risk of lung cancer. Those who followed a high-fiber diet rich in fruits, vegetables and bread reported a 15% lower risk. Participants who ate a high-fiber diet with yogurt reduced their risk of lung cancer by 33 percent.
According to the researchers, high-fiber prebiotics and yoghurt probiotics work in tandem to reduce the risk of lung cancer.
Prebiotics are a type of fiber that the human body cannot digest, and serve as food for the probiotics, live bacteria and yeast found in yogurt.
