King meets representatives of refugee camps in Jordan

The King affirms the absolute support of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and all its institutions for Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

King Abdullah II, in the presence of Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, met at Al Husseiniya Palace today, Wednesday, with representatives of the people of the camps in Jordan, as part of the King’s continuous communication with the citizens.

During the meeting, the King welcomed the attendees at the Royal Hashemite Court, the House of Jordanians, conveying his greetings to “his brothers and sisters in all the camps.” The meeting dealt with issues of local affairs, regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, as well as the challenges facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The King affirmed the continuation of reform in all political, economic and administrative fields, which requires the cooperation of all to reach the desired goal, pointing out the importance of administrative reform as it directly reflects on economic reform and enhances cooperation between the public and private sectors.

He referred to the Corona pandemic and its repercussions on the economic situation, which requires work to reduce the burden on citizens and reduce poverty and unemployment, stressing the need to establish projects in various regions of the Kingdom, which contribute to providing job opportunities.

Regarding the recent royal visit to the United States of America, the King affirmed that the American administration is aware of the importance of working with the Palestinians and Israelis to bring them back to the dialogue table, pointing out that US President Joe Biden is committed to the two-state solution.

And he indicated that the visit to Washington included talking about providing aid to the Palestinian people, as well as the challenges facing UNRWA, referring to the Sweden conference that will be held during the coming period, and will discuss ways to return aid to the agency.

The King reiterated the absolute support of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and all its institutions for Jerusalem and the Islamic and Christian sanctities in it, indicating that there is cooperation and coordination with a number of Arab countries to preserve the historical and legal status quo in the Holy City, and there is an appreciation from them for Jordan’s position in this regard.

He stressed that the world appreciates the Palestinian people, and Jordan’s role by standing by them in obtaining their legitimate rights.

For their part, the attendees valued the king’s firm stances towards the Palestinian cause, and his efforts in defending Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

They stressed the importance of the Hashemite guardianship over the holy sites in the Holy City, which bears the attribute of stability, permanence and continuity, and it is a fixed, historical and legal right.

They praised the results of the royal visit to Washington, and the important messages it carried in support of the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and political and financial support for UNRWA.

They stressed that the camps are an integral part of the Jordanian national fabric, and that they stand united behind the Hashemite leadership in defending Jordan and supporting the process of construction and progress in it.

They expressed their appreciation to the King for the approach of communicating with the various sons and daughters of the country, pointing to the importance of the projects of royal initiatives in the camps. The head of the Zarqa Camp Services Committee, Muhammad Muhareb, recalled what the Hashemites had done for the sake of advancing the nation and making history, pointing to the lofty principles of the Great Arab Revolt.

He referred to the King’s speech when he said that he, as Hashemi, would not give up Jerusalem, which confirms the continued defense of the Hashemites for Jerusalem and its sanctities. The head of the Wihdat Camp Services Committee, Abdul Fattah Al-Kuz, highly appreciated the King’s efforts to provide the Palestinian cause, and his full support for achieving the rights of the Palestinian people.

He stressed that whoever denies what the Hashemites have done in the reconstruction of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian holy sites is ungrateful, adding, “We, with one tongue, say it, will not accept only the Hashemites as guardians of Jerusalem and the holy sites.”

The head of the Baqa’a camp services committee, Dr. Hassan Marshoud, stated that the people of the camps stand united behind the King’s leadership in defending the homeland.

He valued the royal support for the camps through the establishment of comprehensive development centers, sports and youth clubs, the establishment of investment projects, and the provision of vaccinations against the Corona virus.

The head of the advisory body in Irbid camp, Hussein al-Hawari, expressed his appreciation for the king’s role and efforts in securing support for UNRWA.

He pointed to the King’s continuous efforts to support the Palestinian people and demand their rights in all forums, which confirms the King’s standing in the world.

In an intervention, the head of the Talbiya Camp Services Committee, Nasser Al-Banna, pointed out the importance of continuing to support young people and securing job opportunities for them. The head of the advisory body in the Madaba camp, Shafiq Awad, expressed his warmest congratulations and blessings on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the state.

He referred to what Jordan has provided to refugees by hosting them and providing them with services and a decent life, adding that the Kingdom has always been a home for all Arabs. The head of the Jerash Camp Services Committee, Abdul Karim Abed Al-Malik, thanked Jordan for the assistance provided to the people in Gaza.
Asmahan Sarhan, the head of the advisory body in the Hittin camp, drew attention to the position that Jordanian women occupied in all fields, pointing to a number of projects that were established to empower the youth and women sectors in the camps.
The head of the Hussein Camp Services Committee, Adnan Al-Namrouti, praised the comprehensive reform process in Jordan, the consolidation of democracy, the rule of law and the state of institutions.
He pointed out the importance of the King’s discussion papers in stimulating national dialogue and reaching parliamentary governments and programmatic parties.

Speakers presented a number of service and development demands for camp residents, most notably the increase in annual allocations for service improvement committees and sports clubs.

For his part, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, indicated that many royal initiatives have been implemented in the camps during the past years, based on the royal directives, pointing out that a team from the Royal Court visited all the camps and met with their representatives.

He indicated that these initiatives included the areas of development, economic empowerment, social welfare, support for civil society institutions, sports clubs, youth and women’s empowerment. These initiatives also included the construction of many buildings, gardens and housing units to serve the camp residents.

Al-Issawi stressed that under the guidance of the King, royal initiatives in the coming period will focus on productive projects that will provide job opportunities for young people.

Al-Issawi pointed out that a meeting will be held with the service committees and advisory bodies in the camps to follow up on the demands and proposals and coordinate them with the government.

The meeting was attended by the director of the king’s office and the king’s advisor for clan affairs.
