A recent medical study revealed the relationship between the use of antibiotics and the risk of developing colorectal cancer at an early age.
According to the study conducted by researchers at the University of “Aberdeen” in Scotland, and its results were published in the Clinical Advisory website, the use of antibiotics may contribute to an increase in the incidence of colorectal cancer.
According to the study, antibiotics negatively change the gut microbiome (the sum of microbes coexisting with a human being or any other organism and live on its body or inside its intestine, and contribute to the metabolism process), and help stimulate the development of colorectal cancer at an early age, that is, without fifty years.
The scientists reached their results after they analyzed the data of 30418 people, during the period between 1999 and 2011, where it was found that 7,903 colon or rectal cancers were found among individuals who took antibiotics on a continuous basis.
The study authors pointed to the need to conduct more research and expand the sample of the experiment, in the face of early colon cancer, which recorded an increase in the number of infections at a rate of 3% annually over the past two decades.
“It is possible that fast food, sugary drinks, obesity and alcohol played a role in this rise associated with colon cancer, but our data emphasizes the importance of avoiding unnecessary antibiotics, especially in children and young adults,” the researchers added.
