The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States has recommended that fully vaccinated people return to wearing face masks indoors.
This comes amid a surge in cases of the Delta mutated from the Corona virus in the United States, according to what Al-Hurra channel reported, Tuesday.
“In areas of high prevalence of corona infection, health authorities recommend fully vaccinated individuals to wear masks in indoor public places,” said Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
She added that these new instructions have become necessary in light of the rapid spread of the delta mutant in the United States.
The new recommendations come after two and a half months of statements by the same centers that those who have been fully vaccinated do not need to wear masks, whether they are outdoors or inside most closed places, which sparked controversy at the time.
The government health agency also recommended that children wear masks in schools, which they will return to in August.
In turn, US President Joe Biden demanded the wearing of face masks and said: “More masks and vaccinations in areas affected by the Delta type of Corona virus are the best ways to avoid a return to the closure that the country witnessed last year.”
The United States is witnessing an outbreak of the Corona virus, driven by Delta, the most contagious contagion detected so far, which is responsible for more than 89% of infections in the country, according to estimates.
According to figures from the “Worldometers” statistics website, the death toll from Corona in the United States has exceeded 35 million cases, including 627,331 deaths.
