The head of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System, Samir Al-Rifai, said that efforts are focused on reaching laws for parties and elections that are linked to each other, leading to a partisan parliament and party life that represents Jordanians.

Al-Rifai added, during his meeting today, Tuesday, with party leaders representing the Al-Wasat Party Group, that the new parties law will only encourage party work, and the government will not be dealt with in the field of finance.

He pointed out that the discussion tends to recommend transferring the party registry from the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs to the Independent Election Commission, and for the first time today, the election and party laws are looked at in this parallel way, pointing out that the committee will present a roadmap for developing parties within legal frameworks that stimulate youth, especially in universities.

Al-Rifai pointed out that efforts are focused on reaching a programmatic partisan parliament that contributes to developing parliamentary performance and strengthening the democratic approach, based on a deep belief in the importance of parties and partisan work, stressing the need to enable parties to obtain information from governments and institutions to build their national reform programs.

The participants in the meeting presented a proposal paper prepared by a group of parties that includes a set of ideas related to the election laws and parties. The Secretary-General of the Islamic Wasat Party, Mustafa Al-Amawi, the representative of the parties that attended the meeting, and who represent the group of the (26) Wasat Parties, presented their own formula and vision towards party empowerment, stressing their continued support for the directions of the Royal Committee.

For his part, the representative of the National Congress Party, Arhil Gharaibeh, explained the paper prepared by the group of (26), pointing to the importance of political reform based on a clear national vision and within a democratic transformation plan that enables citizens to move and participate politically in a partisan manner without any fear or suspicion.

Al-Gharabeya stressed the importance of reaching partisan governments, and that what comes out of the committee is a cause for optimism, and we hope that the parties will be an effective bloc in political participation. The representative of the Reform Party, Zaid al-Bakhit, said that we need an election law that is agreed upon by the largest number of Jordanians, and that the youth’s lack of turnout for parties has many reasons, including the fact that more than one law has been enacted since 1989, noting that the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System is an opportunity for the country. It is not an opportunity for anyone in particular. For his part, Secretary-General of Al-Hayat Party Abdul-Fattah Al-Kilani stressed the importance of the integrity of the electoral process, considering that the national party list with the number published in the media (50 seats) constitutes an effort and a positive direction to renew political life.

The meeting included Firas Al-Abadi from the Shura Party, Bilal Al-Dhaisat from the Jordanian Al-Raya Party, Salah Al-Qudah from the Jordanian Future Party, Luay Jaradat from the National Wafa Party, Hamdi Murad from the National Current Party, and Mazen Rial from the Al-Hassad Party.

The two Vice-Chairmen of the Royal Committee participated in the meeting: Saleh Irsheidat and Samir Habashneh, Head of the Parties Committee Adnan Al-Sawair and Wael Al-Saqa from the Parties Committee.
